The recovery process
After treatment, Dr. Tansavatdi will give you detailed instructions for home care. This will include how to change your dressing and what skin products to use. Most patients feel a burning or tingling sensation in their skin for a few days, and the area may be pink and swollen. Your skin may also secrete a clear or yellow liquid, or crust over while healing.
Dr. Tansavatdi will provide you with products or prescriptions to help with any discomfort during the recovery process, which typically takes 7 to 10 days. You can use makeup right away as soon as the skin is healed. Most patients go back to their regular routine 7 to 14 days post-treatment.
The pink in your skin should fade by 6 to 8 weeks, and it’s very important to avoid sunlight for a few weeks after the pink color has gone away. And when you do go back into the sun, be sure to use a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. Those considering dermabrasion should be aware that the recovery process is lengthy. It will take about three months for the skin to fully heal.
