What is a Mini Facelift?
As I'm a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, I get this question frequently. Patients want to know: What exactly is a mini facelift? And: Am I a candidate for a mini facelift?
Unfortunately, you're not going to like my answer. The majority of patients that ask these questions, have waited too long and have allowed aging to occur. When they’re finally getting the courage to seek out a surgeon because they're ready for a facelift, the window for a mini facelift has passed. So, the majority of patients are NOT mini facelift candidates.
What Does a Mini Facelift Entail?
A mini facelift means more minor incisions and less separation of the underlying tissues. The incisions are shorter around the ear, and fewer of the tissues are going to be lifted. The strength of the facelift procedure comes from separating the tissues and releasing them, so they can be lifted to a new position. If you don't raise and don't release all the ligaments and lift the tissue, then the strength of your facelift is just not going to be as robust. So a mini facelift means less downtime, yes, but also a mini result.
Which is the Best Procedure For Me?
Unless you are younger and have only the early signs of facial aging, it is likely a traditional facelift is the best procedure for you. If you are really intimidated by the term “full facelift” or a “traditional facelift,” DON'T be. You can actually have a great result without a lot of downtime and it not be overstretched or over pulled, and wind up with the natural look like you would get with the mini result.
